Children and drugs

The bodily functions of newborn and infants are still developing. Because the organs like liver and kidneys where most drugs metabolize and eliminate are still developing, their resistance against bacteria and viruses are still weak. You obviously have to follow proper use of drugs you need to be a lot more careful than adults about giving drugs to them.

Children are different from adults
It is not just to lower the amount of drug you give to adults, please choose drugs that are indicated for infants. When using the drug be careful that the amount you use is properly adjusted for the infant's age, and make sure that the drug is easily consumable. For very young infants when a side effect develops please understand that they cannot properly communicate their condition or symptoms. Please keep a close watch of your infant after you give the drug.
How do you explain about drugs?
If the child can understand the connection between sickness and medicine, talk about the importance of using the medicine, and try to give the medicine only after the child understands and agrees with you.

What to do when the child consumes a lot of drugs at once?
When the child takes a whole lot of medicine, if the child is conscious induce or make him vomit right away and then take him to a hospital or clinic, or when the child is unconscious call the ambulance right away. If you wish, you may call Japan Poison Information Center and ask for first aid.
